Bromo Crater
Standing firmly as high as 2,329 meters above sea level, Mount Bromo holds natural beauty that is a pity to miss. This active volcano is administratively located in four regencies in East Java, including Malang Regency, Pasuruan, Lumajang and Probolinggo. This makes it easy for tourists to come from any direction. The mountain whose name derives from the name of the god in the teachings of Hinduism, Dewa Brahma, is part of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park and has become the most famous tourist spot in the province of East Java. This 800 square km national park covers the area of Mount Bromo and Mount Semeru.
This mountain is famous for its beautiful sunrise views. To be able to witness this phenomenon, tourists must go up to Penanjakan Peak which is the best place to be able to see the sunrise. If you stay at an inn you can tell the innkeeper to be woken up in the morning, because the next day at around 2 in the morning, you will be woken up to prepare for the climb. Fatigue due to climbing will pay off with a magnificent sunrise view. As the sun slowly crawls up, the atmosphere will be very calm and only the sound of a camera traveler’s shots is heard.
Mount Bromo has a crater with a diameter of about 800 meters from north to south and 600 meters from west to east. With the sulfur content in the crater, it is not surprising that the smell of sulfur is sharp enough when you are standing on its edge. To be able to enjoy the beauty of this crater, you have to climb 250 steps first. If this sounds tiring, there are horses owned by local residents that you can rent.
The air temperature on Mount Bromo ranges from 3-20 degrees Celsius, it can even reach temperatures of minus 0 degrees Celsius. For that, prepare warm clothes, gloves, scarves and headgear.
