Fort Kalamata
The Fort Kalamata is usually called Fort Santa Lucia or better known as the Fort Kayu Merah, because it is located in the village of Kayu Merah, South Ternate City. The fort was first built by the Portuguese (Pigafeta) in 1540 to face the Spanish attack from Rum, Tidore.
The fort was later restored by the Dutch in 1609. In 1625, the fort was abandoned by Geen Huigen Schapenham, who several years earlier arrived with the Nassau fleet in Ternate. In 1967 under the government of Gillis van Zeist, this fortress was emptied forever. After being emptied, the fort was occupied by Spain.
The name of the fort was taken from the name of the Prince of Ternate, namely the Kalamata Prince who died in Makassar in March 1676. The fort that has four bastions facing the four directions of the wind serves as an attack. There is a hole in each bastion for the viewfinder hole. And the unique fort is not roofed to be able to go to the top of the bastion you will climb a sloping incline instead of stairs that may have been used to help when pushing the cannon.
