Ijo Temple
Ijo Temple is located in Bukit Ijo, Sambirejo Village, Sleman Yogyakarta, precisely southeast of Prambanan Temple. Ijo Temple is the highest temple in Yogyakarta, at an altitude of 410 m above sea level. Ijo Temple was founded around the 9th century. Although the area in the temple is a barren area and many limestone rocks, it does not reduce the beauty that you can see from the Bukit Ijo area. You can also see the beauty of the city of Yogyakarta from the area of this Ijo temple. Entering the fence building can be seen various ornaments and decorations. Ijo Temple is a complex of enshrinement, in the complex of the temple consists of 17 building structures and 11 terraces terraces. in the 1st and 4th floors there is one temple, in the 5th terrace there is one temple and two batur, on the 9th terrace is the rest of the building batur, in the 8th terrace there are buildings of three temples and four batur buildings, there are also the inscription reads the letter F code that reads Guywan, and the stone inscription which is 14 cm high and 9 cm wide, above the 11th terrace is the most sacred place, on the terrace page is found a perimeter fence, eight statues, and four buildings, namely the main temple and the temples of three ancillary temples. There are yoni statues inside the temple which symbolize Lord Shiva, which can be concluded by the temple is hindu background, there is also an ox statue which is a vehicle of Lord Shiva in Hindu mythology. There is also a lion-headed and human body Narasinga statue, which is believed to be the incarnation of Lord Shiva. There are also statues that depict men and parables that lead to a certain side, which is believed to be used to drive away evil spirits. Various forms of fine art were found since the entrance to this Hindu temple. Right above the entrance there is a makara with a double head motif and some of its attributes. The double head motif and its attributes which can also be found in Buddhist temples show that the temple is a form of acculturation of Hindu and Buddhist cultures. Some temples that have similar makara motifs include Ngawen, Plaosan and Sari. There are also statues that depict the figure of women and men who float and lead to a certain side. This figure can have several meanings. First, as a suwuk to cast out evil spirits and secondly as a symbol of the union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Uma. This union is interpreted as the beginning of the creation of the universe. Unlike the statues in Prambanan Temple, the naturalist style at the statue in Ijo Temple does not lead to eroticism. From that height, it has been imagined the beauty of a hilly panorama. It is called Candi Ijo because the temple which was built around the 9th century was built on a hill known as Bukit Hijau or Gumuk Ijo. The mention of the name Ijo village was first referred to in the Poh Inscription dating from AD 906.
The inscription was written about a ceremony attendant from the village of Wuang Hijau. If so, the name Ijo was at least 1100 years old until 2006. The Ijo temple complex is a terraced temple complex that rises to the rear namely the east side with the rear as a center of enshrinement.

- You can use public transportation, Prambanan – Piyungan, but only on the main road, the rest can use other transportation services such as motorcycle taxis.

From the city of Yogyakarta to the direction of Prambanan Temple, after arriving at Prambanan Temple, proceed with a journey to Piyungan. About 15 km from Prambanan Temple towards Piyungan and past the Ratu Boko Temple Complex you will find a directional guide to Ijo Temple. Turn left along the main road and the road will condition uphill.
